Myrna Trickey
Myrna’s love of animals began at the age of five when she encountered a sweet young Torti cat who was roaming the neighborhood. Sometimes this little alleycat walked nearby and accepted a pat on her head and a stroke down her back before trotting away. Her visits became more frequent near the doorstep where, over time, she was rewarded with a treat or a little food and water. Soon this sweet little guest found a place to belong. She was called “Fuzzy” and was officially Myrna’s little girl.
Myrna learned much from this interesting relationship with a purring, comforting cat. Fuzzy had a special sweetness and innocence that made all the ouches of a young girl go away. This special love was never forgotten. The relationship with Fuzzy lasted more than a decade and ultimately launched Myrna’s lifetime devotion to cats, dogs, and other animals. And Myrna has remained a loving and proud owner of cats throughout her life.
Myrna joined Fix’ Em KC following a long career devoted to the core mission of helping others. She has a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia and a thirty-plus year career as an executive in the healthcare field. She has been the recipient of numerous academic awards and has received recognition for her work beneficially impacting the lives of others. Now retired, Myrna’s passion for leading and influencing public welfare policy continues. She looks forward to bringing her forward-thinking energy to Fix ‘Em KC, joining in the effort to reduce the number of unwanted animals in our community. She hopes that someday we have a community where all dogs and cats are wanted and treated with the love and dignity they so richly deserve.
